We conduct original research examining the political, economic, and legal forces that shape the international system, bringing interdisciplinary perspectives to bear on questions that rarely admit of single-discipline answers.
Diplomatic relationships shape economic policy. Economic interdependence informs geopolitical calculation. Legal frameworks provide the architecture within which states, institutions, and enterprises interact across borders.
Our work proceeds from the premise that these dynamics must be examined together to produce a genuinely complete understanding of the international environment.

"Peking" is the historical English rendering of 北京 (Beijing), the capital of the People's Republic of China and one of the world's most consequential political, economic, diplomatic, and intellectual centers.
The name reflects the Institute's particular emphasis on understanding China's role within the international system — most directly through our flagship U.S.–China Relations initiative.
The Institute's scope, however, extends well beyond China. Our broader purpose is to examine the relationships among nations, economies, institutions, and legal systems that collectively define the international order.
We are a not-for-profit, non-partisan organisation helping governments and leaders turn bold ideas into reality. We do it by advising on strategy, policy and delivery, unlocking the power of technology across all three. We do it by sharing our insights, so everyone can benefit. And we do it to help build more open, inclusive and prosperous countries for people everywhere.
